The Art Gallery of Ontario offers free admission every Wednesday night from 6:00-8:30 pm to their permanent collection. No tickets, no reservations required, no strings attached. The event is popular with the general public and it's quite refreshing to see people of all ages and backgrounds taking in some culture in this city.

INSIDER DETAILS: The Galleria Italia, a stunning showcase of glass and wood that runs the entire length of the Gallery's second level, is one of my favourite spots in the city and, coincidentally, now features a very reasonably priced espresso bar. Even if you are not a lover of art, this is a beautiful place to stop by for a drink in the evening. Definitely beats Starbucks or your local Tim's any day. Also, the AGO has a rather stellar gift shop that I also highly recommend. The variety is quite unexpected - including nifty kitchen gadgets and electronic accessories, among other things - and many pieces would make great gifts for those hard-to-shop-for people who seem to have everything. If you're in a pinch, this just might be your new best friend. |
